Mark Russinovich is the CTO Microsoft also asserted that OAM consists of unique characteristics like platform agnostic. The official blog states, “While our initial open implementation of OAM, named Rudr, is built on top of Kubernetes, the Open Application Model itself is not tightly bound to Kubernetes. It is possible to develop implementations for numerous other environments including small-device form factors, like edge deployments and elsewhere, where Kubernetes may not be the right choice. Rudr is an Open Application Model (OAM) implementation for Kubernetes. Note: Rudr is currently in alpha. It may reflect the API or features we are vetting before inclusion into the OAM spec. Rudr takes an incremental approach to solving problems. The architecture is a set of plugins for Kubernetes which allow OAM specifications to be implemented and deployed on clusters with native APIs (you still use kubectl).

The new Open Application Model (OAM) and Rudr enable application developers and operators to describe apps in way that makes them portable cross different cloud and edge infrastructures.
