The question, "what's the price of propane?" is the most common inquiry that any propane dealer ever answers. The answer will always simply be a dollar figure. However, propane prices are a bit more complex than just a dollar figure measured per gallon. Propane prices have fallen along with crude oil since October. But that’s a good thing, right? I think we'd all rather see the current price of propane than a price spike to $2.00 per gallon. And, if you're comfortable with propane prices being at their lowest level in 16 months we can lock in the price of propane for the balance of this winter. We can also lock in the base price for a portion of next year's propane requirements from May 2019 thru April 2020. Natural Gas Cost Comparison. The cost comparison between propane and natural gas is much easier due to the fact that unlike electricity, natural gas and propane can be directly compared based on their individual BTU ratings. Seeing that natural gas contains approximately 1,030 BTU per cubic foot and propane contains 2,490 BTU per Maine hasn’t seen prices this low for almost two years. The average statewide kerosene price was $3.21 per gallon, a price also not seen since December of 2017. This week’s average propane price of $2.45 per gallon (for heating customers) has not been this low since September of 2017.
